WAN-IFRA, AIRPPU, and OpenAI have announced a joint initiative aimed at increasing AI adoption, innovation, and institutional resilience among independent news publishers in Ukraine.
The Initiative and Objectives of the Partners
OpenAI, WAN-IFRA, and the Association of Independent Regional Publishers of Ukraine (AIRPPU) have announced a new program to empower Ukrainian news publishers. This partnership aims to help organizations publishing under challenging conditions leverage the capabilities of artificial intelligence.
Two Core Components of the Program
The new program consists of the Newsroom AI component, which enables news organizations to develop AI-driven projects, and the Business Transformation component, which supports commercial and operational transformation.
Masterclass Series
The Newsroom AI Masterclass Series has begun bringing together international experts to share practical knowledge, case studies, and implementation strategies. This series of the program started on August 5, 2026.
Newsroom AI Catalyst Support
The Newsroom AI Catalyst program will provide deeper and hands-on support to ten selected Ukrainian news organizations. Within this scope, AI solutions will be pilot-tested, starting on September 17, 2026.
API Credits and Global Contribution
All organizations participating in the program will be provided with OpenAI API credits to develop custom newsroom solutions. This initiative builds upon WAN-IFRA's global work and OpenAI's partnerships.
