Japanese Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa stated that artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies will hold a very significant weight in the next phase of the massive $550 billion investment agreement made with the US.

The New Dimension of the Investment Pact

Japanese Trade Minister Ryosei Akazawa shared important information regarding the future of the massive investment package between the two countries in statements made in Washington.

Previous Rounds and Energy Projects

Within the scope of the two rounds announced so far, $36 billion has been transferred to oil, gas, and mineral projects in the US, and $73 billion to nuclear facilities and various gas power plants in Tennessee and Alabama.

Customs Duties and the Structure of the Agreement

This mechanism was at the center of last year's tariff agreement in which Washington imposed a 15 percent tax on Japanese goods and lowered automobile rates.

Differences with the European Union Framework

Although the European Union has signed a similar trade framework, this structure contains projections aimed at strategic investments by private companies rather than being a direct fund.

Europe's US Chips Commitment

The European Union document also encompasses the intention to purchase at least $40 billion worth of US-made artificial intelligence chips for computer centers.
