Colorado Voters' Approach to Artificial Intelligence Data Centers

A new poll conducted by Magellan Strategies in Colorado showed that registered voters harbor a distinct dislike for artificial intelligence data centers.

Poll Results and Voter Trends

In the study conducted by research firm Magellan Strategies, the opinions of registered voters in Colorado were gathered. The poll, conducted between August 26 and September 2, involved 1,389 voters.

According to the results obtained, 86 percent of the participants do not want a data center in their neighborhood, while 75 percent also oppose the establishment of these facilities anywhere in the state.

Legal Regulations and Demands for Bans

A large majority of the voters participating in the poll demand a ban on the construction of data centers. Approximately one-fourth of the participants want new zoning and land use policies to be established regarding these facilities.

Serious concerns are expressed among voters, particularly regarding the lack of regulations and data mining conducted without consent.

Water Consumption and Environmental Concerns

According to information provided by Magellan Strategies, the high water consumption of data centers ranks at the top of the main sources of concern among poll participants.

At a time when the state of Colorado is struggling with drought conditions and passing through a year-round wildfire season, the water consumption of these facilities draws major backlash.

Perspective on Artificial Intelligence

While 60 percent of the participants stated that they used artificial intelligence tools such as ChatGPT or Claude within the past year, 66 percent approach artificial intelligence and its future negatively.

It is stated that a large portion of those expressing negative views are uncomfortable with the massive facilities to be established rather than the artificial intelligence technology itself.
