The procured fiber optic cables will be used for fiber-to-the-premise structures, cellular backhaul, and national long-distance connections for AI data centers.
Verizon Business CEO Kyle Malady emphasized the scale and convergence of mobile connectivity and broadband, drawing attention to the future of the system.
Artificial Intelligence and Data Centers
As part of the launched AI program, Verizon is connecting cell towers, enterprise data centers, and residential areas to the same high-capacity backbone.
The company is laying ultra-dense cables in primary corridors to connect the data centers of AI hyperscalers, including Amazon Web Services.
Strategic Investments
Verizon CEO Dan Schulman had announced during the second-quarter earnings call that a multi-billion dollar agreement was made with Google for dark fiber connectivity.
To increase its manufacturing capacity, Corning had received a $500 million investment commitment from Nvidia and announced plans to build three new manufacturing facilities in the US.
