Challenging Climb and Delays
According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office report, the group started their hike at 3:00 AM and, despite the rule to turn back if the summit was not reached by noon under normal conditions, they managed to reach the peak around 7:00 PM.
Descent in the Dark and Stranding
After reaching the summit late, the trio attempted to descend in the dark, called the sheriff's office for directions, and had to spend the night in Mud Creek Canyon.
Rescue Operations and Warnings
Following the successful rescue of the climbers the next morning by Forest Service rangers and volunteers, authorities emphasized that travelers should not rely solely on artificial intelligence for trip planning.
