How Many Jobs Might AI Replace?

A comprehensive survey conducted among U.S. workers regarding how artificial intelligence tools affect job opportunities showed that the technology has not yet created a radical workforce transformation.

Survey Details and Scope

The online survey, commissioned to YouGov by a sociologist studying artificial intelligence, was conducted between July 30 and August 4, 2026. As part of the research, a total of 1,250 U.S. workers were asked about their experiences with artificial intelligence and their attitudes toward the technology.

Job Loss and Gain Rates

According to the findings, gathered four years after the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, only 3 percent of workers stated that they lost their jobs because of artificial intelligence. In contrast, about 6 percent indicated that they found a new job thanks to artificial intelligence.

Promotions and Career Developments

According to the survey results, approximately 9 percent of workers reported achieving a promotion or career advancement connected to artificial intelligence. The vast majority of workers stated that they experienced no job changes during this process.

Future Expectations

It appears that the most significant impact of artificial intelligence on employment for now is offering promotion opportunities through skills. However, it is not yet known whether this situation will remain permanent with the widespread adoption of autonomous artificial intelligence systems.
