Leading artificial intelligence companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind have been holding joint safety talks for weeks to address major risks in frontier modeling.

Safety Talks

OpenAI Global Policy Chief Chris Lehane confirmed that the company has been working jointly with Anthropic and Google DeepMind on artificial intelligence safety for weeks. Lehane is meeting with lawmakers in Washington to discuss catastrophic risks that artificial intelligence could cause.

Sectoral Approaches

This collaboration comes following an article by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calling for a slowdown in artificial intelligence developments. Industry leaders such as Sam Altman, Demis Hassabis, and Elon Musk also stated that they support this initiative.

Legal Status and Standards

Although concerns have been raised about potential antitrust violations due to this coordination between the companies, Lehane stated that the firms do not need a government exemption. It is reported that the companies are working to establish an industry standards body.

Regulations and Political Approach

U.S. President Trump and his advisor David Sacks are skeptical of safety regulations out of concern about losing the artificial intelligence race to China. OpenAI announced that it supports the FRONTIER Act, which introduces a mandatory independent verification requirement for top-tier artificial intelligence laboratories.
