Anti-AI Sentiment in Colorado: 81% of Young Adults Ages 18-44 Dislike Artificial Intelligence
A new poll by Magellan Strategies has revealed that a majority of Colorado residents view artificial intelligence unfavorably, with that figure being significantly higher among young adults.
A new survey conducted by the Broomfield-based nonpartisan research firm Magellan Strategies revealed that two-thirds of Colorado residents hold an unfavorable view of artificial intelligence. The study found that young adults, particularly those between the ages of 18 and 44, dislike artificial intelligence by an 81% margin.
Survey Details and Participant Profile
The research was announced to the public last weekend by Magellan Strategies, a Broomfield-based nonpartisan research firm.
The study was conducted between August 26 and September 2 with approximately 1,400 registered voters, and the survey's margin of error was announced as 2.63%.
AI Perception by Age Groups
While attitudes toward artificial intelligence showed distinct differences across age groups, the highest opposition was observed among the younger population.
While 81% of individuals in the 18-44 age bracket stated they do not like artificial intelligence, this rate stood at 55% in the 45-64 age group and 49% among those aged 65 and older.
Distribution by Gender and Political Leanings
It was observed that women exhibited a more negative attitude toward artificial intelligence technology than men, with this rate reaching 74% among women.
While the rate of those exhibiting a negative attitude among men was 58%, it was found that Republicans approached artificial intelligence more favorably compared to Democrats and independents.
Income Level and Usage Habits
Sixty percent of participants stated that they used artificial intelligence tools within the past year.
A positive approach toward artificial intelligence increased as income levels rose, and among individuals earning at least $200,000 a year, opinions were divided almost equally.
Reasons for Concerns Regarding Technology
Participants cited environmental costs, resource demands of data centers, and the risks of job losses among their reasons for opposing artificial intelligence.
Additionally, a lack of trust in technology companies was among the grounds for the negative attitudes.
Data Centers and Construction Bans
Fifty-five percent of the survey participants stated that they support decisions to impose bans on data center constructions.
It was observed that societal opposition has also increased exponentially as the facilities approach their living spaces.
