Speaking at a webinar held on September 1 by the Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies, Dr. Lawrence Gray drew attention to the importance of employees using artificial intelligence tools responsibly in the workplace.

Artificial Intelligence and Common Misconceptions

Dr. Lawrence Gray stated that there are widespread public misunderstandings regarding the working logic of large language models such as ChatGPT.

Gray emphasized that such artificial intelligence tools are not search engines or databases, do not memorize answers, and that their core mechanism is built on predicting the next word.

Approach to Solving Workplace Problems

It was stated that artificial intelligence tools can help solve fundamental problems faced by professional teams, such as ambiguous goals, unclear roles, and unaddressed conflicts.

Gray expressed that achieving the highest efficiency from these tools depends on applying correct techniques rather than just talent.

Model Hallucinations and Human Oversight

It was noted that employees should be cautious against errors and hallucinations within the models during artificial intelligence integration.

Pointing out that models can confidently produce false information, Gray stated that the outputs obtained must therefore be verified by human experts.

Goal Alignment and Privacy Measures

It was conveyed that artificial intelligence can quickly detect mismatches between organizational goals and team goals.

In addition, it was emphasized that personally identifiable information must be stripped from texts to protect privacy when entering prompts related to workplace data and conflicts.
