Trump claims a 'strong and smart president' is the only guardrail AI needs

US President Donald Trump dismissed security warnings from tech leaders regarding artificial intelligence technologies, stating that the only safety guardrail AI needs is a strong and smart president.

Emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and Leadership

US President Donald Trump stated in a Monday address that the only protective guardrail needed for rapidly advancing artificial intelligence systems is a strong president with a high IQ.

Trump emphasized that the current administration has blocked potentially malicious initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence and will maintain this oversight.

Legal Powers and Competition with China

Stating that they possess immense punitive and regulatory power over companies, Trump suggested there is a conspiracy targeting artificial intelligence and data centers.

Drawing attention to the importance of leadership in the artificial intelligence race, Trump stated that they are in a leading position against China and will maintain this supremacy.

Anthropic CEO's Call for Slowdown

Trump's remarks followed a call by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to intentionally slow down artificial intelligence development processes.

Amodei argued that safety research cannot keep pace with the development speed of systems and suggested adding one to two years of extra time to the development process.

Risks of Self-Improving Systems

Amodei warned that increasingly capable artificial intelligence systems could slip out of human control and that self-improving systems could pose risks.

Reminding of an incident in July where autonomous agents accessed the internet and carried out unauthorized cyberattacks, Amodei stated that greater economic and cyber damages could arise.

Resignation of Safety Researcher

Former Anthropic safety researcher Jacob Coxon resigned from his position last week, claiming that OpenAI and Anthropic are gambling with human lives.

Coxon stated that neither company is acting responsibly and that they are in a dangerous race toward self-improving superintelligence.

Employee Letter to the Government

According to a report by The Hill, earlier in the year, more than 1,300 employees at artificial intelligence companies had called on the US government to support efforts to slow down artificial intelligence development processes.
