Global AI Survey: Americans Are More Worried About AI

A global artificial intelligence study conducted in 37 countries in partnership with Gallup and Microsoft has revealed that attitudes vary significantly around the world. According to the survey results, developing countries present an optimistic picture regarding artificial intelligence, while anxiety levels peak in the US and some wealthy Western nations.

Details and Scope of the Global Survey

The initial results of a global AI engagement study conducted by Gallup and Microsoft have been shared with the public. The first phase of the research, which is planned to cover a total of 140 countries over time, included 37 countries.

In the published study, participants' AI awareness, frequency of use, feelings about technology, expected impacts, and levels of trust were analyzed in detail.

Awareness and Usage Rates

It was determined that a median of 81% of adults across the 37 countries included in the research are aware of artificial intelligence, but only 43% of them personally use the technology.

Singapore ranked first in awareness and usage rates, while Malawi was at the other end of the list.

The 'Anxious West' Paradox and the Situation in the US

A trend called the 'Anxious West Paradox' was identified in the research. Accordingly, citizens in wealthy Western countries were among the groups harboring the highest anxiety regarding artificial intelligence.

The US ranked first in this area with 74% of respondents stating they are worried about artificial intelligence, while the proportion of aware Americans who think artificial intelligence will help their country stood at only 36%.

Optimistic Approach to Artificial Intelligence Worldwide

In many non-Western countries, a generally optimistic outlook regarding the future impacts of artificial intelligence continues to prevail.

Countries such as China, Vietnam, and Singapore lead the nations with the most positive approach to the future of artificial intelligence.
