The newly formed Illinois Artificial Intelligence Cabinet is tasked with conducting a detailed evaluation of the various risks posed by artificial intelligence to the safety of state residents and critical infrastructure.

Member Selection and Areas of Work

According to an announcement from Pritzker's office, cabinet members will be officially announced in the coming weeks, and this delegation will work in close collaboration with state agency leaders.

The individuals to be included in the cabinet are expected to come from diverse fields such as academia, law, ethics, and governance, and to provide recommendations regarding public safety threats and potential regulations.

Industry Warnings and Regulations

This step follows mounting warnings from industry leaders and researchers regarding the dangers that unsupervised artificial intelligence technologies could pose to humanity.

Governor Pritzker previously signed a package in July consisting of some of the strictest state-level regulations in the country, mandating annual independent audits for pioneer developers.
