The three-semester, 30-credit-hour program, intended for individuals with a background in computer science, aims to equip students with the competencies to work at companies such as OpenAI or Anthropic.
Enrollment and Admissions
While the program is projected to proceed with small cohorts in its early years, Department of Computer Science Chair Chris Jermaine estimates that the inaugural cohort starting in 2027 will consist of approximately 20 students.
Accreditation Status
Although the program, recently approved by the Faculty Senate, is not specifically accredited, the department chair noted that unlike other engineering disciplines, accreditation in computing is not as critical.
Core Education and Updates
Emphasizing that the fundamental foundations of artificial intelligence have remained largely the same for decades, officials stated that rapidly evolving environmental elements, such as agentic AI, will be continuously updated.
