Seeking to expand its strong position in the hardware market, Nvidia has signed a $12.93 billion acquisition agreement with open artificial intelligence model distribution platform Hugging Face.

Strategic Acquisition and Brand Status

Nvidia has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire Hugging Face, one of the largest platforms developing and distributing open artificial intelligence models, for $12.93 billion. With this move, Hugging Face will retain its brand and remain open to various models, cloud systems, and infrastructures.

Broad Developer Ecosystem and Usage Rates

Hugging Face serves more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators worldwide. The platform currently hosts over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications, while more than 200,000 companies actively use these services.

Hardware and Ecosystem Neutrality

Nvidia commits that it will not force platform participants into its own hardware ecosystem. With this agreement, the company aims to enable different developers to use the most suitable open models for their products and to promote the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence.

Infrastructure Enhancement and Existing Contributions

Thanks to Nvidia's engineering resources and global presence, Hugging Face's platform reliability, security, and distribution capabilities will be enhanced. Additionally, Nvidia is already among the largest contributors on the platform, having published over 500 models and 250 open datasets.

The Emergence Process of the Agreement

It is stated that the idea for the acquisition originated from Hugging Face founder Clément Delangue. While evaluating the next phase of the company, Delangue met with Nvidia executive Jensen Huang, and it was decided that Nvidia would be a suitable home for the platform.
