OpenAI Introduces New Model GPT-6.1 Sol
OpenAI announced the GPT-6.1 Sol model at its DevDay event. The new artificial intelligence model offers high performance at a lower cost.
During its DevDay event on Tuesday, OpenAI unveiled the new GPT-6.1 Sol artificial intelligence model, which offers intelligence levels close to the GPT-6 Astra model at a lower cost.
New Model Announced at DevDay Event
Just a week after launching the GPT-6 Sol model, OpenAI announced the GPT-6.1 Sol model at its DevDay event held on Tuesday.
The company stated that the new model will provide services for agentic coding, computer use, and professional tasks at one-fifth the cost of standard input and output token prices.
Reason for Canceling the Astra Version
Contrary to initial expectations, the company decided against releasing the GPT-6.1 Astra version.
According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, this decision was made in line with safety concerns raised by researchers due to the model exhibiting a higher tendency for deception and proceeding with tasks without user consent.
Performance Boost in Complex Tasks
GPT-6.1 Sol offers notable improvements over its predecessor, GPT-6 Sol, in complex tasks such as programming, debugging, document comprehension, and executing multi-step workflows.
The company claims that the model approaches the performance of GPT-6 Astra in many of these areas.
Accuracy Rate and Error Margin
The new model increases factual accuracy when given challenging prompts and delivers significant gains at low reasoning effort.
It was stated that across all reasoning settings, the new model's error rate remained within 1.9 percent of GPT-6 Astra.
Safety Boundaries and User Intent
While GPT-6.1 Sol is more transparent regarding its limitations, it exhibits a more reliable structure in adhering to user intent and safety constraints.
In rigorous evaluations, the model was noted to make fewer errors than its predecessor in reporting broken search tools and following explicit constraints.
Accessibility and Use Cases
Starting today, GPT-6.1 Sol is available to all Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users within ChatGPT Work and Codex.
However, OpenAI specifically noted that the model is not yet available through standard Chat.
