Funding grants for new research into AI and teen development

OpenAI has announced that it has allocated a total of $5 million to support independent research examining the impacts of generative artificial intelligence on the lives and development of teenagers aged 13 to 17.

Funding Focused on Youth Development

As generative artificial intelligence technologies increasingly take place in teenagers' learning, content creation, and recommendation processes, the effects of this situation are expected to be multifaceted.

The support program will provide funding for independent research examining the opportunities and challenges brought by artificial intelligence use during adolescence, particularly in the context of social and emotional development.

Application Process and Dates

Applications for these research grants will continue to be accepted until October 6, 2026, and selected project owners will be notified on or before November 13, 2026.

While grant support of up to $1 million is provided for individual research projects, this process will be funded and managed by OpenAI Group PBC.
