In a press release issued Monday, Commander Eugene Rush stated that scammers coerce victims into sending money by threatening them with arrest, detention, or imprisonment.
Official Agencies Do Not Demand Money
Commander Eugene Rush emphasized that the sheriff's office will under no circumstances request money, gift cards, or financial compensation on behalf of individual employees or the agency.
Verification and Communication Warning
Officials reminded the public that electronic communications purportedly coming from the sheriff's office must be verified by calling the Metro Dispatch Center or the emergency line.
