Kamal and Donna Singh, who run a shop in the South Yorkshire region, announced that they have started using CCTV camera systems integrated with artificial intelligence to catch thieves and reduce shoplifting incidents.
AI-Powered Alert System
Kamal Singh, co-owner of One Stop K&D in Rotherham, stated that staff receive an instant alert on their phones when items are placed into pockets or bags, and camera footage can be accessed immediately.
Monitoring the Shop from the Other Side of the World
Thanks to the remote access capabilities offered by the system, the shop owners can receive shoplifting alerts no matter where they are in the world and can lock the shop doors when necessary.
Significant Reduction in Shoplifting Incidents
Co-owner Donna Singh stated that before artificial intelligence, it was very difficult to notice shoplifting, and the new system provides great convenience to the business by instantly detecting suspicious situations.

Stating that they wanted to track customer movements when they expanded their shop two years ago, Kamal Singh emphasized that artificial intelligence relieves staff from the pressure of constant monitoring.

Noting that the software costs the business £300 a month with a daily cost of approximately £10, the partners argue that the system pays for itself thanks to prevented thefts.

Addressing the possibility that camera systems might raise privacy concerns, the business owners stated that innocent customers have no need to worry and that the cameras are only reviewed when an alert is received.
