Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Deputy Governor Hatice Karahan announced in her opening speech at Istanbul Fintech Week 2026 that the new goal in the field of payments is to establish smarter systems beyond speed and security.

New Goals in Payment Systems

Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) Deputy Governor Hatice Karahan addressed the transformation process of payment systems during her opening speech at the Istanbul Fintech Week 2026 event.

Stating that speed and security had been the main goals in payments for many years, Karahan expressed that the dimension of making these processes smarter has now been added.

Istanbul Fintech Week 2026 Begins

Istanbul Fintech Week 2026 welcomed participants with its main summit program between October 6 and 7.

The opening speech of the event, organized with the contribution of Bex Digital Wallet and under the theme "Smart, Embedded and Tokenized", was delivered by CBRT Deputy Governor Hatice Karahan.

Artificial Intelligence and Agent-Based Structures

Emphasizing that the next major development in the field of payments is the use of artificial intelligence, Karahan stated that this transformation carries payments into agent-based structures.

Karahan noted that artificial intelligence offers significant opportunities in coordinating payment-related processes, but agent-based payments also bring along some new challenges.

Automation and Reliable Settlement

It was pointed out that alongside new technologies, automation and reliable settlement processes carry great importance for central banks.

It was conveyed that payments are increasingly able to be executed according to predefined conditions and have become part of automated processes.
