AI music generator Suno has announced the Suno v6 model family, developed using licensed data from music companies, amid a period of facing copyright lawsuits.
New Model Trained on Licensed Music
In an announcement made by Suno on Wednesday, it was reported that the Suno v6 model family was introduced, developed using licensed data from major music companies and distributors such as Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe.
Older Models Being Retired
The startup rolled out the core model Suno v6 and an experimental version, Suno v6 wild, for paid users, while also sharing a faster option open to all users, Suno v6 mini, and announcing that older models will be retired.
The new model family allows users to edit specific parts of songs with prompts, reference text, images, or videos, separate instruments from samples, and remix songs if artists give consent.
Copyright Lawsuits and Industry Agreements
The company had previously reached an agreement with Warner Music Group and secured a memorandum of understanding with BMG last month. However, legal proceedings and lawsuits filed by other giants such as Sony and Universal Music Group, as well as certain artists, are still ongoing.
