Purpose and Scope of the Project
The University of Hawaii at Manoa is leading efforts to develop artificial intelligence-based tools to protect food production systems before they become major problems. This initiative addresses the need to identify potential dangers in the food supply chain using proactive methods.
Interinstitutional Collaboration
The project is being carried out in partnership between the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This award marks the second historic success of the University of Hawaii receiving the National Science Foundation EPSCoR Track II Award.
Research Methods and Process
Spanning four years, the project integrates artificial intelligence, environmental sampling, advanced genetic analysis, and high-resolution chemical analysis methods. The research aims to monitor risks in aquaculture, livestock, and agricultural systems.
Future Objectives
Scientists are developing new artificial intelligence models capable of interpreting complex biological and chemical data. The developed technologies will be tested to enhance food security and strengthen the resilience of production systems.
