The University of North Texas has announced the creation of a new college for artificial intelligence and advanced analytics following a $20 million philanthropic donation from alumnus Vikas Sinha and his wife Anuradha.

Following the major donation, the University of North Texas shared with the public its decision to establish a new college that will provide education in the field of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics.

University leadership stated that this new academic structure will help advance research and better prepare students for the future workforce.

Source and Details of the Donation

This significant investment was made by Vikas Sinha, vice president of Broadcom mainframe software division and a UNT alumnus, along with his wife, Anuradha Sinha.

Vikas Sinha earned a Ph.D. in data science from UNT in 2023, and the couple is known to have previously made various financial contributions to the university.

Structure and Departments of the College

The new college, which will bear the donors' names, is designed to house two academic departments and an interdisciplinary institute.

One of the departments will focus on building intelligent systems such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science, while the other will address human and organizational interactions.

Research and Funding Areas

The newly established institute for applied artificial intelligence and data science will both focus on academic research and meet the needs of Texas employers.

The $20 million fund provided will establish six separate endowment funds for leadership, student scholarships, professorships, entrepreneurship, advanced research, and emerging technologies.
