Prof. Dr. Avi Loeb delivered a ninety-minute keynote speech to an audience of approximately one thousand participants at the Phenomecon 2026 conference held in Vernal, Utah.
In his speech, he emphasized that unidentified anomalous phenomena point to potential fractures in our understanding of reality and that these phenomena should be investigated with better data.
Difference in Approach Between Academia and Government
Loeb stated that the United States government is much more open-minded about investigating potential extraterrestrial UAP interpretations compared to academic circles.
He pointed out that while academic curiosity is expected to trigger innovative research, the current scientific mainstream does not allocate sufficient funding to collect UAP data.
ODNI Meeting and Washington Visit
Traveling to Washington, D.C., immediately after the event in Utah, Loeb attended a UAP Management Board meeting held at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) on September 11, 2026.
At the meeting, which was attended by representatives from various branches of the executive branch, the White House's deep interest in the subject and the future of UAP research were discussed.

Expressing that the gap between humanity's technological development and its moral development must be closed, Avi Loeb evaluated the social impacts of encountering alien intelligence.
