Stating that a significant portion of millions of active residences across Turkey are in the risk pool, an urgent earthquake performance analysis was requested, especially for structures built between certain years.

Building Stock and Number of Active Residences

It was announced that the total number of residences across Turkey is approximately 36 million, and about 26 million of these structures are actively in use.

It was stated that TurkStat data as well as new buildings constructed in recent years were taken into account in the calculations.

Buildings in the Risk Pool

It was noted that, considering various criteria, approximately 6 to 7 million residences are in the risk pool and these structures need to be examined in detail.

It was emphasized that building age alone does not indicate that a structure is risky, but caution should be exercised for structures built during certain periods.

Emphasis on Structures Built Before 1998

It was stated that multi-story structures built especially between 1980 and 2000 need to be scrutinized in terms of risk.

It was requested that buildings constructed before the 1998 Earthquake Regulation, which have low concrete quality and contain heavy overhangs, be evaluated as a priority.

Earthquake Performance Analysis Process

It was recommended that a preliminary review be conducted on risky structures first, and then the data obtained through technical studies such as core drilling and pachometer testing be modeled on a computer.

It was stated that buildings found to be risky as a result of the analyses should be retrofitted, and if the cost is too high, the reconstruction process can be evaluated.
