The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a congratulatory message for Mauritania's candidate Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who was unanimously elected to the position of Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Türkiye conveyed the congratulatory message in its capacity as the term president of the organization.

An important decision was taken at the 23rd Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Jeddah on August 27. At the meeting, Mauritania's candidate Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed was unanimously elected as the new secretary-general of the organization.
Congratulations from Türkiye in Capacity as Term President
In a written statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that Türkiye congratulated Ahmed in its capacity as the Term President of the 51st OIC Council of Foreign Ministers. The statement wished the new secretary-general success in his work.

The ministry's statement emphasized the belief that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will continue to contribute to overcoming the common challenges facing the Islamic world in the upcoming period. It was stated that the organization will continue to play an active role in defending common causes, particularly the Palestinian issue, and strengthening solidarity among member countries.
