Comprehensive Restoration Period at Istanbul Archaeology Museums

Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy inspected the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, where the most comprehensive restoration, revival, and construction processes in the history of the Republic are being carried out, and evaluated the details of the ongoing work.

Protection of Historical Buildings is a Priority

Visiting the Istanbul Archaeology Museums, Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy emphasized that protecting historical buildings and transferring their original architectural character to future generations are among their primary priorities.

Work Continues in Phases

Stating that the ongoing projects are implemented in phases, Minister Ersoy expressed that the first phase started specifically for the Classical Building in 2011, and that the section built in 1891 along with the southern wing was strengthened and opened to visitors in 2021.

Museum of the Ancient Orient Reopened

It was noted that the third phase of work, encompassing the Tiled Kiosk and the Museum of the Ancient Orient, was initiated in January 2023, and within this scope, the Museum of the Ancient Orient was reunited with visitors on July 6.

Detailed Repair at the Tiled Kiosk

It was stated that during the works carried out at the Tiled Kiosk, an inventory of approximately 54,000 tiles was compiled, followed by meticulous cleaning, consolidation, completion, and coloring procedures.

Osman Hamdi Bey Simulation

It was conveyed that the simulation area of Osman Hamdi Bey, prepared in the Selsebilli Room section of the museum, was presented to the appreciation of visitors on July 14 and attracted great interest.

New Entrance and Open-Air Display

It was reported that the main entrance of the museum was moved to Gülhane Square, 38 archaeological artifacts began to be exhibited on Osman Hamdi Bey Slope between Gülhane Square and the museum, and approximately 140 artifacts were also presented for open-air display in the museum courtyard.
