Cultural Investments in Earthquake Zone Will Reach 34 Billion Liras
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that ongoing restoration and cultural investments in 11 provinces will total 34 billion liras.
Speaking in Kahramanmaraş, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that the resource allocated for cultural investments and restoration works in 11 provinces affected by the February 6, 2023 earthquakes will reach 34 billion liras.
Ministry Resources and Projects
Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that they have used resources exceeding 12 billion 265 million liras to date for restoration projects and applications of structures allocated to his ministry.
He stated that 79 projects regarding immovable properties in the 11 provinces in the region have been completed, work is ongoing on 17 projects, and tender processes are being carried out for 4 projects.
Works in Citizens' Ownership
Minister Ersoy noted that comprehensive steps have also been taken for registered immovable cultural assets owned by citizens.
In this context, it was shared that a support program exceeding a total of 2 billion 140 million liras is being carried out for 1,608 immovable cultural assets.
Status of Foundation Cultural Assets
It was reported that the General Directorate of Foundations has allocated a budget of 22 billion liras for the 11 provinces in the earthquake zone.
It was emphasized that out of 678 foundation cultural assets examined in the region, 31 were completely destroyed, 144 were heavily damaged, 104 were moderately damaged, 98 were lightly damaged, and 301 works survived the earthquake without damage.
Future Period Targets
It was stated that more than half of the total workload in the restoration and revival program has been completed.
It was announced that a total of 168 more projects are planned to be completed, including 58 by the end of 2026 and 110 in 2027.
