Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality Organizes Courses in Five Different Languages
Implemented to preserve the city's cultural heritage, the project will provide education in Kurmanji, Zaza, Sorani, Armenian, and Syriac.
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality is launching a new term of language courses in five different languages with the aim of keeping the city's cultural diversity alive and carrying its ancient languages into the future.
Cultural Heritage Preservation Project
Diyarbakır Metropolitan Municipality is expanding its language course program to keep the city's cultural diversity alive and carry its ancient languages into the future. The Language Preservation and Development Branch Directorate under the Department of Culture, Art, and Social Affairs will provide education in the new term.
Languages and Levels Offered in the Courses
In the new term, classes will be offered in Kurmanji, Zaza, Sorani, Armenian, and Syriac. Kurmanji and Kirmancki Zaza will be organized at A1, A2, and B1 levels, while Armenian will be held at A1, A2, and B1 levels. Sorani and Syriac courses will be conducted at the A1 beginner level.
Education Goals and Application Process
While the education aims to develop participants' reading, writing, and speaking skills, it also intends to revive the languages of the city's historical memory in social life. Citizens wishing to participate in the courses can apply online between September 1 and September 14, 2026.
