Following a new investigation launched immediately after his release, the former bureaucrat was apprehended by law enforcement forces on charges of laundering assets.
Mehmet Cemil Acar, the former State Airports Authority (DHMİ) Department Head who was on trial for bribery and corruption charges and in whose home large amounts of foreign currency and gold bullion were found, has been detained again on charges of laundering asset values after being released.

A court decision of release had been issued regarding Mehmet Cemil Acar, the former State Airports Authority (DHMİ) Department Head who was on trial for bribery and corruption charges. The Ankara 89th Criminal Court of First Instance had reached this decision taking into account the time Acar spent in detention.
Large Fortune Found in His Home
The fortune found in the safe during previous searches conducted in Mehmet Cemil Acar's home had sparked widespread public reaction. During the searches, 26 kilograms of gold bullion, 1.320 million dollars, and 121 thousand Euros were seized.
New Investigation on Money Laundering Charges
Following his release, a new legal process was initiated against the former DHMİ executive. The former bureaucrat was apprehended by law enforcement forces within the scope of a separate investigation conducted on charges of laundering assets derived from crime.
