GES project and theater restoration completed in the Ancient City of Tlos
Thanks to the solar power plant implemented following the completed theater restoration in the Ancient City of Tlos, the historical site will be illuminated with its own energy within the scope of night museology.
The theater restoration and solar power plant project carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in the Ancient City of Tlos, located in Muğla's Seydikemer district, has been completed; thus, the ancient theater has started to be illuminated with solar energy within the scope of night museology.
Solar Energy Application in Tlos
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has implemented one of the first examples of applications that will meet the lighting needs of historical sites with eco-friendly systems in the Ancient City of Tlos.
With the Solar Power Plant project, which is a first for Tlos, solar energy has started to be utilized completely in the night lighting of the ancient theater.
Restoration Works Completed
Comprehensive restoration works launched in January 2023 were completed as of August 2026 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Governorship of Muğla, and Akdeniz University.
In the meticulous works carried out, the preservation of the architectural integrity and different historical phases of the structure was taken as a basis, staying faithful to the historical texture.
Contribution to Regional Tourism and Night Museology
Modern lighting provided by solar energy allows the ancient theater to be visited in the evening hours, reducing the negative impact of extreme heat experienced during the summer months.
Excavation works carried out under the direction of Prof. Dr. Taner Korkut, the theater restoration, and the SPP project pioneer the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of night museology.
