Kobani International Film Festival Begins in Gelsenkirchen
Opening its doors for the seventh time in Germany, the international cinema gathering brings film enthusiasts together with the participation of numerous local and foreign artists.
The seventh Kobani International Film Festival, held this year in the German city of Gelsenkirchen, opened its doors to film enthusiasts today with the participation of 913 films from 102 countries.

The seventh edition of the Kobani International Film Festival officially started in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, with the participation of hundreds of productions from over a hundred countries.
The festival, which opened today and will last for three days from September 4 to 6, hosts comprehensive events that bring together film enthusiasts and the art world.

A large number of Kurdish and foreign artists, filmmakers, and guests are present at the organization, which is also sponsored by the Rûdaw Media Network.
In addition to rich film screenings, various folklore and music events designed to attract the interest of participants are also organized in the festival program.
Evaluations by Artist Hozan Dino
Kurdish artist Hozan Dino, who attended the festival, particularly drew attention to the critical importance of cinema in introducing a people and society.
Dino stated that a strong and professional cinema is needed for Kurds to introduce themselves to the world and to convey their demands for freedom.
The Social Role of Cinema
Stating that the Kurdish people mostly relied on music and songs in the past to introduce themselves, the artist emphasized that cinema holds a different position.
Hozan Dino added that cinema is a central tool through which a people can convey their pains, joys, political and social situation.
Award-Winning Productions of Last Year
The productions and successful artists that won awards in various categories at the sixth edition of the festival held last year were also announced.
According to the announced list, the best Kurdish film award was won by Maryam Samadi and Roni Schamlian for their production A House near the Sun.
Award Winners of the Past Edition
Last year, the best film award was granted to Toni Hilgersson for the film Nettle, while the best director award went to Álvaro Raúl Diamanti for La Villa.
In addition, the best screenplay award went to Irine Javakhidze and Shalva Shengeli for I Left, while Kristin Grue won the best actor/actress award.
