Mardin Group Keeps Kurdish Musical Heritage Alive in Kazakhstan

Founded in Kazakhstan a decade ago, the Mardin Group continues its activities with the aim of keeping traditional music and cultural values alive through the descendants of exiled Kurds.

A Community Preserving Cultural Heritage

Undertaking an important role in preserving national culture and traditions in the diaspora and passing them on to future generations, the Mardin Group ranks among the recognized art ensembles of Kazakhstan.

Performing at numerous cultural events, concerts, and weddings organized by Kurds, the group's fame has reached regions inhabited by Kurds in Central Asia and Russia.

Third Generation of Artist Families

All members of the group come from artist families, and most are known as the grandchildren of the children of the 1937 and 1944 exiles.

Kamran Lezgiyev, the keyboardist of the Mardin Group, states that music has been passed down from generation to generation in his family and that he is a third-generation musician.

Historical and Familial Ties with Kurdistan

It is stated that the ties of the Mardin Group members with Kurdistan date back to the 1950s, and that this connection was established through Mullah Mustafa Barzani's Peshmerga.

The greatest dream of the group members is to perform in the future at weddings and celebrations in Kurdish cities, showcasing their art directly in that geography.
