Drone Attacks on Data Centers

Unmanned aerial vehicle attacks directed at the data centers of Russian tech giant Yandex caused a massive global crisis within the company's infrastructure.

Users in Turkey Affected

The severe collapse in the Yandex Cloud network directly affected users in Turkey as well. Disruptions occurred because live map, GPS, and route-guidance servers became unresponsive.

While hailing taxis via Yandex Go could not be performed across Turkey, widespread access outages also occurred in the Yandex Navigation service.

Statements Made by the Company

In a statement by the company, it was noted that emergency teams and Yandex experts continued their work in the region following the drone attack that took place during the night hours.

While it was recorded that there were no injuries in the attack, customers were advised to activate their alternative systems and a warning was issued that there might be disruptions in technical support channels.

Damage and Transformers in the Region

Vladimir Regional Governor Aleksandr Avdeyev announced that a fire broke out due to the attack targeting the infrastructure in the region, and two transformer substations providing electricity to approximately 5,000 people were put out of service.

Previous Attack Reports

Yandex had announced that the Sasovo data center in the Ryazan region was damaged in drone attacks on October 8, and the data center in the Kaluga region on October 9.

It was publicly announced that operations at the facility in Sasovo were completely halted, and part of the infrastructure at the facility in Kaluga became unusable.
