New Cuneiform Tablet Fragment of the Treaty of Kadesh Found in Hattusa

During excavations carried out at the Boğazköy/Hattuşa archaeological site in Çorum's Boğazkale district, a new tablet fragment belonging to the Treaty of Kadesh, one of the most important documents in world diplomatic history, was discovered.

New Historical Discovery in Hattusa

During ongoing excavation works at the Boğazköy/Hattusa archaeological site located in Çorum's Boğazkale district, a new find of great archaeological significance was obtained. In excavations carried out in the Büyükkale area, where the Hittite royal palace is located, a new tablet fragment belonging to the Treaty of Kadesh was brought to light.

Akkadian Cuneiform Tablet Fragment

As a result of scientific examinations, it became clear that this newly discovered fragment belongs to the obverse of one of the copies of the Treaty of Kadesh written in Akkadian cuneiform.

Thousands of Years Old Message of Peace

Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that the new fragment contains lines pertaining to provisions regulating the treatment of individuals seeking asylum from one country to another. Ersoy expressed that the expressions regarding the non-destruction of people's homes carry a very strong message from thousands of years ago to the present day.

World Peace Day Announcement

Emphasizing that this valuable discovery was shared with the public on September 21 World Peace Day, Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy stated that it once again revealed Anatolia's deep-rooted place in the history of peace and diplomacy, and wished for a future where all people live in peace.

Future Excavation Goals

Within the scope of ongoing excavation works in Büyükkale to bring historical finds to light, it is targeted to find other missing parts belonging to the Treaty of Kadesh.
