New museum and exhibition hall opened to visitors at Aydos Castle
A new promotion and exhibition hall has started serving within Aydos Castle, known as the place where the conquest of Istanbul began. Admission is free for visitors.
Inside Aydos Castle in Sultanbeyli, accepted as the starting point of the conquest of Istanbul, the Aydos Castle Promotion and Exhibition Hall has opened its doors, displaying excavation finds and historical artifacts.
Historical Significance of Aydos Castle
Sultanbeyli Mayor Ali Tombaş recalled that world-renowned historian Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık defined Aydos Castle as the place where the conquest of Istanbul began. He expressed their pride in passing down the castle's deep-rooted history and rich cultural heritage to future generations.
Exhibited Artifacts and Sections
The Aydos Castle Promotion and Exhibition Hall features load-bearing columns, door and window profiles, and arch pieces uncovered during excavations. Additionally, embossed decorative panels, stones with iron clamps, and water drainage channels are among the artifacts exhibited in the museum.
Historical and Architectural Elements
Showcasing the architectural understanding and defense techniques of the period, the museum features cinevision screenings explaining the history of the castle. Awaiting visitors inside the museum is also an epoxy-printed photography exhibition documenting the twelve-year restoration process.
Visiting Hours and Admission Status
Aydos Museum, where admissions are completely free, can be visited every day except Mondays. The museum can be toured between 09:00 AM and 05:00 PM on weekdays, and between 09:00 AM and 07:00 PM on weekends.
Social Amenities and Facilities
Within the castle complex, there is an Aydos Cafe and a souvenir shop to meet the needs of visitors. The area also provides prayer rooms and parking areas for the use of guests.
