Regions and Colors Festival Began in Antalya and an Accident Occurred in Marmara
While the 9th Regions and Colors Festival, organized by Muratpaşa Municipality, started in Antalya, search and rescue operations were launched in the Sea of Marmara following the collision of two ships.
While the traditional cultural gathering hosted by Muratpaşa Municipality in Antalya, which will last for nine days, has begun, simultaneously a tanker and a dry cargo ship collided in the Sea of Marmara, and search and rescue activities are rapidly continuing in the region.
Cultural Feast Began in Antalya
Traditionally organized by Muratpaşa Municipality, the Regions and Colors Festival is turning Antalya into a major nine-day cultural gathering for the tenth time this year.
Bringing together cultures from Turkey's seven regions at the Muratpaşa Atatürk City Square, the event made an enthusiastic start with Mediterranean Night.
Colors of Anatolia in the Square
With a total of 83 compatriot and cultural associations participating this year, the festival area features local flavors, unique handicrafts, music, and folk dances from all four corners of Anatolia.
The established booths are kept open to visitors every day from noon until midnight throughout the festival.
Ship Collision in the Sea of Marmara
The motor oil-laden tanker ALSU, sailing from Kocaeli towards Aliağa, and the dry cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu, carrying rolled sheet metal from İskenderun to Karadeniz Ereğli, collided in the traffic separation scheme in the Sea of Marmara.
Following this maritime accident, security and rescue measures in the region were immediately activated.
Search and Rescue Operations
It is assessed that the dry cargo ship named Tuğberk İmamoğlu has sunk due to the impact of the collision.
Search and rescue activities by the teams of the Directorate General of Coastal Safety and the Coast Guard Command are continuing intensively in order to find the 10 personnel serving on the ship.
