In the study conducted by The New York Times, opinions were gathered from actors, producers, executives, and various television industry workers. As a result of the evaluation process focusing on productions that started broadcasting after January 1, 2000, a comprehensive list of 100 shows was created. On the other hand, productions that started in 1999, such as The Sopranos, were excluded from this scope.

Breaking Bad, which aired between 2008 and 2013, took the top spot in the hundred-show list created through the voting of industry professionals. The production claimed the top spot as the best television series of the century with the votes of survey participants.
