Uludağ's Tourism Plans Take Effect While Severe Heavy Rain Paralyzes Life in Istanbul
While Uludağ is being re-planned for four-season tourism, heavy rainfall in Istanbul has caused floods and loss of life.
While zoning plans aiming to use Turkey's winter tourism center Uludağ in all four seasons have come into effect, heavy rainfall in Istanbul has led to floods, stranded vehicles, and loss of life.
Four-Season Tourism Era Begins in Uludağ
Conservation-focused zoning plans prepared to transform Uludağ, one of Turkey's oldest winter tourism centers, into a destination usable in all four seasons of the year have officially entered into force after the completion of a one-month suspension period.
National Park Area Under Protection
Uludağ Area President Candemir Zoroğlu specifically emphasized that the planning studies that have entered into force will be carried out solely within the jurisdiction boundaries of the Uludağ Area Presidency and that no intervention will be made in the national park area.
Renewed Infrastructure and Social Areas
Within the scope of the new period applications, while the uncontrolled use of parking lots is prevented, approximately 4 kilometers of safe pedestrian walkway axes and 19.25 hectares of open sports areas have been planned to be offered to the service of citizens.
Accommodation Facilities Reduced
With the aim of protecting the ecological balance in the region, the number of accommodation facilities was reduced, and it was decided to introduce cultural facilities and recreation areas in place of these areas.
Severe Heavy Rain in Istanbul
In addition to the developments in Uludağ, heavy rainfall that began to show its effect from the morning hours in Istanbul negatively affected life throughout the city.
Floods and Stranded Situations
Homes and workplaces were flooded in many districts, notably Küçükçekmece, Esenler, Arnavutköy, Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş, Sarıyer, Ümraniye, and Sultanbeyli, underpasses filled up, and numerous vehicles became stranded on the roads.
Crisis Desk and Teams in the Field
Following the negativities experienced, a crisis desk was established at the AFAD Istanbul Regional Directorate, and according to statements made by the Governorship, a total of 2,518 reports were received and 8,000 personnel were deployed in the field.
Transportation and Measures Taken
It was reported by official authorities that there are no closed roads throughout the city due to heavy rains, while runways at airports are open and flight traffic continues.
