Istanbul Modern has brought together art enthusiasts with its tenth collection exhibition, 'Under the Same Blue', which examines the transformation that modern and contemporary art in Turkey has undergone since the 1940s. Curated by Çelenk Bafra and Deniz Pehlivaner, the exhibition features a total of 230 works, 43 of which are being exhibited for the first time.
Scope and Venue of the Exhibition
Istanbul Modern's new collection exhibition spreads across a wide area, ranging from the Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı Collection Exhibition Hall to various floors of the museum, and from its foyers to its library.
Curatorial Approach and the Blue Theme
In the event curated by Çelenk Bafra and Deniz Pehlivaner, blue is defined as a space for thought that evokes the sea, sky, distance, coming closer, freedom, and the horizon.
The curators state that the exhibition brings together historical continuity with thematic readings and highlights the visibility of female artists.
Historical Flow of Modern Art
In the first part of the exhibition, the period extending from the 1940s to the 2000s is examined through the works of names such as Nejad Melih Devrim, Adnan Çoker, Fahrelnissa Zeid, Neşet Günal, and Ara Güler.
Post-2000 Productions and Global Diversity
In the second part, post-2000 productions are brought together with the participation of many local and foreign artists around themes such as war, migration, nature, the body, and gender.
