New Ecological Agenda: Rights, Struggles and Legal Order Symposium Concluded
The two-day symposium held in Ankara addressed the right to life, environmental issues and legal processes.
Organized by the Union of Turkish Bar Associations Environment and Urban Law Commission in Ankara, the New Ecological Agenda symposium concluded with the participation of legal professionals and occupational organizations.
Details of the Event Held in Ankara
The event, organized by the Union of Turkish Bar Associations Environment and Urban Law Commission, took place at the Atty. Özdemir Özok Congress and Culture Center. Environmental and urban law were examined under a magnifying glass during this comprehensive two-day program.
Main Legal Issues Addressed
Throughout the symposium, the right to life, the right to respect for private life, judicial processes and experienced rights violations were discussed in detail. Furthermore, the right to property, the right to the city and the rights of nature were evaluated from an environmental law perspective.
Opening Speeches and Participants
The opening speeches of the event were delivered by UTBA officials and the commission spokesperson. UTBA board members, members of parliament, representatives of unions and occupational chambers, and numerous legal professionals gathered at the program.
Environmental Struggle and Regional Issues
During the opening, the past and present of the environmental struggle in Turkey were emphasized, and the importance of the work carried out by occupational chambers was explained. Mining activities in regions such as Sinop, Artvin Cerrattepe, Erzincan İliç and Bursa Kirazlıyayla were criticized.
Sessions and Call for Solidarity
Within the scope of the program, six separate sessions were held where experts and academicians made presentations. Sevda Yıldız, the mother of Uğur Yıldız who lost his life in the İliç gold mine disaster, also delivered a speech and made a call for solidarity.
