20 Million Packaging Threshold Exceeded in Bursa's Deposit System
Within the scope of the application carried out under the coordination of the Turkish Environment Agency, the amount of recyclable packaging collected across the city has exceeded 20 million.
As a result of the work carried out within the framework of the deposit system implemented in Bursa as of July 1, over 20 million glass, PET bottles, and aluminum cans have been collected to date.
Activities of the Facility in Kestel
Glass and PET bottles, as well as aluminum cans, are collected and processed at the Counting and Verification Center established in the Kestel district.
After the procedures are completed, the packaging is stripped of the deposit value, crushed, and directed to the recycling process.
Year-End Targets and Capacity Increase
Currently, counting and verification operations for an average of 500,000 deposit packaging items per day are successfully carried out at the center.
Authorities aim to increase this figure to 1 million packages per day by the end of the year, covering a significant portion of the market volume in Bursa.
New Machines and Infrastructure Investments
In addition to the deposit return machines currently serving throughout the city, orders have been placed for 100 new machines.
Plans are underway to establish a similar counting and verification center in the western region of Bursa in the upcoming period.
Contribution to Industry and Foreign Dependency
Recycled materials are reused as raw materials in various industrial sectors such as automotive, textiles, and beverages.
Through this process, it is aimed to reduce Turkey's high foreign dependency on plastic raw materials.
