In line with the recommendation decision made by the Ombudsman Institution upon an application, a significant change was made in compulsory earthquake insurance practices, bringing an end to the policy confusion experienced during housing sales.

Citizen's Application

A citizen applied to the Ombudsman Institution stating that after selling their house, a duplicate policy was issued for the same residence and they had difficulty getting the unused premiums refunded.

Review by Institutions

As a result of the review conducted, the Ombudsman Institution forwarded a recommendation decision to the relevant institutions to facilitate the process and ensured that steps were taken to make regulations.

Official Gazette Decision

With the new regulation published in the Official Gazette dated August 21, 2026, the practice regarding the transfer and cancellation of compulsory earthquake insurance policies became official.

Principles of Premium Refund

According to the new regulation, following the sale of a house, the compulsory earthquake insurance policy belonging to the former owner will be terminated as of the date of sale, and the fee for the remaining days will be refunded.
