Agreement Between Iran and Oman and the Status of the Strait of Hormuz
It was announced that the consensus reached between Tehran and Muscat does not mean the strait will be opened immediately, as the process depends on the conditions conveyed to the US.
Iranian officials reported that as a result of technical and diplomatic talks with Oman, a consensus has been reached, but the seven conditions submitted to the US must be met for the Strait of Hormuz to be opened.
Consensus Reached with Oman
It was stated that a final agreement was reached in early September as a result of intensive technical and diplomatic talks conducted between Iran and Oman.
Entry and Exit Routes
According to the statement, while the entry route to the Strait of Hormuz lies entirely within Iranian territorial waters, part of the exit route also remains within Iranian territorial waters.
Traffic Regulations
It was stated that the traffic on this route will be entirely subject to Iran's regulations, and after this regulation is implemented, the southern route will be closed.
Seven Conditions Requirement
In response to expectations regarding the opening of the strait, Iran put forward seven conditions to the US side through intermediaries and emphasized that the strait will remain closed until these conditions are met.
Regional Meeting and Announcement
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had stated that the consensus would be announced to the public at a meeting of foreign ministers to be held in Oman.
