Alacabel Tunnel to Shorten Travel Time Between Konya and Antalya
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Uraloğlu announced that with the commissioning of the tunnel, travel time between the two cities will decrease and massive economic gains will be achieved.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that upon the completion of the ongoing Alacabel Tunnel construction, the travel time between Konya and Antalya will be shortened by 20 minutes, providing an annual savings of 910 million liras.
Technical Features of the Alacabel Tunnel
The Alacabel Tunnel is being constructed as twin tubes with a length of 7,360 meters. Asphalt paving works are ongoing in the tunnel, where excavation and lining concrete manufacturing have been completed.
With 11.8 kilometers of connection roads, the total length of the project reaches 19.2 kilometers, and the tunnel and roads are being built to divided highway standards.
Goal of Safe and Uninterrupted Transportation
The project passes through elevations approximately 427 meters lower than the existing road grade. Through this, it is aimed to prevent negative conditions experienced particularly during harsh winter conditions.
It has been stated that thanks to this improvement at the Alacabel pass, a safe and uninterrupted traffic flow will be established between Konya and Antalya.
Reduction in Distance and Travel Time
It was stated that with the completion of the project, the route will be shortened by 7 kilometers compared to the existing road. It was announced that drivers will gain 20 minutes in travel time.
Economic and Environmental Contributions
Thanks to the Alacabel Tunnel, a total annual savings of 910 million liras is projected, consisting of 768 million liras from time and 142 million liras from fuel.
Additionally, with this transportation improvement to be implemented, carbon emissions are planned to be reduced by 7,151 tons annually.
