Within the scope of the social rental housing model to be implemented for the first time in Turkey, houses to be built by TOKİ will be rented to the lower-income group at half the market price, and applications for the project, starting with 15,000 residences in Istanbul, will begin to be accepted on September 14.
Details of the Social Rental Housing Project
A new model has been put into effect by the public to solve the housing problem, and the social rental housing system, which has examples around the world, will be implemented for the first time in Turkey.
Within the scope of the project, the residences to be built by TOKİ will be rented out to citizens in the lower-income group well below market prices through a drawing method.
Application Conditions and Who Can Participate
The first four criteria for participation in the drawing have been determined; accordingly, individuals who do not own a home, are over 18 years of age, are married, and are citizens of the Republic of Turkey will be able to apply.
Other conditions required for participation are expected to be announced by the Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum.
Application Calendar and Drawing Process
President Erdoğan announced the calendar regarding the new model, and applications for the drawing will begin to be accepted on September 14.
After the application process is completed, the drawing will be held in the presence of a notary public, and the first drawing is planned to take place in October.
Rental Period and Management of the Houses
Citizens who are entitled through the drawing will sign a lease agreement with TOKİ, and the residences will be rented for three years.
During this process, management, maintenance, and audit activities will be undertaken by TOKİ, and after three years, the maintenance of the houses will be carried out and they will be given to new beneficiaries.
Locations of the Residences and Rental Fees
The social rental housing units will not be located on the development peripheries of the city, but at central points such as Ataşehir, Sancaktepe, Üsküdar, Başakşehir, Gaziosmanpaşa, and Beyoğlu.
Rental fees will vary depending on the size of the house and the region, and will be offered to citizens at a fee equal to or below half of the regional market rate.
Long-Term Goals and Urban Transformation
The public aims to implement a total of 500,000 rental social housing units nationwide within the framework of the upcoming 25-year roadmap.
Istanbul's urban transformation campaign, known as the "Half is on Us" support, will be extended to all 81 provinces, and 150,000 independent units will be renewed every year.
