Banking Sector Total Deposits Increased by 434.9 Billion Liras
According to weekly data announced by the Central Bank, a significant rise was recorded in the total deposit volume of the banking sector.
According to weekly monetary and banking statistics announced by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the total deposits of the banking sector increased by 434 billion 877 million 447 thousand liras in the week ending September 18, reaching 33 trillion 891 billion 793 million 422 thousand liras.
Course of Total Deposits
According to weekly data shared by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, the total deposits of the banking sector recorded an increase of 1.30 percent in the week ending September 18. With this increase, the total deposit amount rose from 33 trillion 456 billion 915 million 974 thousand liras to 33 trillion 891 billion 793 million 422 thousand liras.
Turkish Lira and Foreign Currency Deposits
During the same week, Turkish lira-denominated deposits in banks increased by 1.09 percent, rising to 18 trillion 510 billion 543 million 909 thousand liras. Foreign currency-denominated deposits, on the other hand, were recorded as 11 trillion 196 billion 301 million 426 thousand liras with an increase of 1.57 percent.
Foreign Currency Accounts of Domestic Residents
While total foreign currency deposits in banks stood at 269 billion 568 million dollars last week, 230 billion 797 million dollars of this amount were accumulated in the accounts of residents in the country. When considering data adjusted for parity effects, a 3 billion 30 million dollar increase was observed in the total foreign currency deposits of domestic residents.
Change in Consumer Loans
Consumer loans of domestic residents in the banking sector decreased by 1.14 percent last week, falling to 6 trillion 885 billion 439 million 385 thousand liras. In the distribution of these loans, 834 billion 336 million 274 thousand liras consisted of housing loans.
Credit Cards and Total Loan Volume
In the distribution of consumer loans, 41 billion 182 million 377 thousand liras consisted of vehicle loans, 2 trillion 568 billion 518 million 993 thousand liras of personal loans, and 3 trillion 441 billion 401 million 741 thousand liras of individual credit cards. The total loan volume of the sector, including the Central Bank, also increased by 22 billion 60 million 12 thousand liras to 27 trillion 531 billion 396 million 689 thousand liras.
