Borsa Istanbul BIST 100 index starts the new week with a decline

The BIST 100 index on Borsa Istanbul started the new week with a 0.88 percent decline at 14,339.28 points. Having finished Friday with gains, the index recorded a decrease of 127.97 points at the opening.

Opening Values of the BIST 100 Index

Following a buyer-dominated trend on Friday, Borsa Istanbul's BIST 100 index had completed the day with a 0.51 percent gain at 14,467.25 points. At the opening of the new week, the index retreated by 127.97 points and 0.88 percent compared to the previous close, dropping to 14,339.28 points.

Latest Status in Sector Indices

In the opening session, the banking index lost 1.07 percent in value, while the holding index declined by 0.68 percent. Among the sector indices, the sole gainer of the day was the chemistry, petroleum, and plastic sector with a 0.36 percent increase. The sector that declined the most was determined to be the IT sector with a 2.64 percent drop.

Uncertainties in Global Markets

Global markets are following a mixed course under the influence of concerns that artificial intelligence companies will slow down their technology development pace and rising geopolitical risks.

Market Expectations and Technical Levels

Analysts state that the domestic data agenda will be calm, while statements to be made by European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde abroad will be closely monitored. From a technical perspective, the 14,200 and 14,100 point levels serve as support, while the 14,500 and 14,600 point levels act as resistance for the BIST 100 index.
