Caykur General Manager Yusuf Ziya Alim stated that aging tea gardens spread across 790 thousand decares throughout Turkey urgently need to be rejuvenated, and announced that they are looking for a transformation formula that will not victimize producers and can be applied on an annual basis.

Urgent Need for Rejuvenation of Aging Tea Gardens

It was stated that a significant portion of the tea gardens in Turkey have completed their economic life and have a history of 60 to 100 years. Considering that the standard yield period is 50 years, experts argue that renewal work must be initiated urgently.

Statements Made at the Rize Gastronomy Festival

Meeting with journalists within the scope of the 6th Gastronomy Festival organized by the Rize Municipality, Caykur General Manager Yusuf Ziya Alim made important evaluations regarding the future of the sector and drew attention to license registration dates.

Planned Renewal Process Based on License Registrations

It was stated that the planting date, age, and records of all gardens are fully available within Caykur. It was emphasized that renewal works should be carried out in a planned manner, taking these license registration dates into account.

Producer Income Loss Needs to Be Compensated

It was stated that providing financial support to the producer is essential to compensate for the financial losses that will arise during the garden renewal process. It was noted that this support is of great importance so that the producer does not move away from the garden and does not experience livelihood difficulties.

Proposal for Gradual Ten Percent Annual Transformation

It was stated that if the total area of 790 thousand decares is renewed in ten percent slices every year, the process can proceed in a controlled manner. With this model, it was calculated that a producer with ten decares of gardens could rejuvenate only one decare each year.
