The COP31 Global Sustainable Insurance Summit, to be held in Antalya on November 13-14, 2026 in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and the Insurance Association of Turkey, aims to strengthen climate resilience by bringing together global finance and insurance leaders.
Theme and Participants of the Summit
Organized under the theme of The Imperative of Climate Resilience, the summit will bring together global insurance and finance leaders, the business world, policymakers, regulatory institutions, academics, and non-governmental organizations.
The Role of the Insurance Sector
The summit will discuss how insurance companies can strengthen climate resilience at various levels of the economy through their roles as risk managers, underwriters, and investors.
Impact of the Climate Crisis on Financial Stability
Floods, droughts, and wildfires, which are increasing in frequency and severity, affect households, widen the insurance protection gap, and increase economic losses that threaten overall financial stability.
White Paper Launch
During the two-day event, the global launch of the white paper titled From Vulnerability to Insurability, prepared by the UN Principles for Sustainable Insurance, will take place.
Main Topics to be Discussed
Topics such as determining the value of resilience, protecting small and medium-sized enterprises, closing the climate data gap, and incentivizing investments in the transition to a low-carbon economy will be discussed at the summit.
Focus on Concrete Applications
Özgür Obalı, Secretary General of the Insurance Association of Turkey, emphasized that the summit must focus on implementing concrete and rapid applications.
