Electronic Payment Era Begins in Iraqi Customs
Procedures for importing goods in Iraq have been renewed, making the electronic payment of customs duties mandatory.
Procedures regarding the import of goods in Iraq have changed, and starting from Thursday, October 1, it has become mandatory to pay customs duties and taxes in advance electronically via the ASYCUDA system.
New Import Procedures
Procedures regarding the import of goods in Iraq have been completely changed, opening the doors to a new era. In line with the decision taken, significant changes are projected in import operations.
Mandatory Electronic Payment
According to the new practice, no merchant will be able to import goods without paying customs duties in advance electronically via the ASYCUDA system and at the Central Bank's official dollar rate.
Central Bank Instructions
In a letter sent by the Central Bank of Iraq to all authorized banks, it was stated that nine points have been determined for the implementation of the Council of Ministers' decisions.
Kurdistan Region Exception
Selwan Akreyi, a member of the Iraqi Parliament's Border Crossings and Protection of Domestic Production Committee, announced that the practice does not cover merchants in the Kurdistan Region.
Objectives of the Practice
Selwan Akreyi stated that the new regulation was implemented with the aim of preventing tax evasion and corruption, increasing domestic revenues, and preventing dollar smuggling.
